CD Stuck in Drive / Mac won't boot

Tags: mac, cd, boot, stuck, drive
Hello,

I am trying to reset a keychain for a user, and needed to reset his password (the user does not know it). The powerbook runs Jaguar, and I do not have a Jaguar CD. I placed a Panther CD into the drive and set it to be the startup disk. When I reboot, nothing happens. The Apple logo appears by cycles endlessly until I power the laptop off. I tried all sorts of startup commands, to no avail. How to I get the CD out of the drive, and reset this user's password? What is the startup command to change the boot disk, and when should I press it?

Thanks

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ok the first thing is if you are locked out with os panther then you need the same os disk thus this means you cant use any other os disk....
to take out the disk : press alt button when you bootup and it will prompt with option you want to boot into . at this stage press eject button on the top of the keyboard and disk will eject.
Secondly to reset the password : put the same os disk which is same as you os on you hard drive the restart the machine or forcefully shut it down.
Again start the machine and quiclu hold the alt key it will come up with the boot choice that is either from your hard drive or from disk select disk and then on top is tools click on reset password utility and after reset exit or quit the setup utility.
Any problems give us shout
Cheers
