Problems reinstalling osx (restarts when trying to boot from cd)?

so my girlfriend shut her laptop down half way through upgrading to osx10.5.5...  Now when you turn it on it just goes to a bluescreen....  Anyway so I decided the bes tthing to do would be a fresh install because she didn't really have any important files on it.....

So I put the install disk into the drive and booted up.... nothing...

Then I tried holding down the "C" key while booting...  seems to do something but then it just reboots...  as long as I keep my finger on the "c" key it just keeps rebooting...  when you finally let go of the "c" key it goes back to the bluescreen.

Also tried holding the "option" key while booting and then clicking on the install disk to boot from.  Still just goes to the bluescreen...

I thought this bluescreen shit only happens on windows machines...

Any suggestions?
