The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

spill, wont POST, BIOS, laptop, wont boot

I have been working on a laptop that had something spilled on it (soda or beer) and after thoroughly cleaning all parts of it with alcohol swabs and letting it dry out, I powered it back up and it freezes while its loading the bios. its a gateway 6460 and I dont know where I stand with this thing, I have spent a good amount of time cleaning it out.  The screen is fine, and as far as I know the hard drive memory and processor were not affected by the spill, but as I already said, it starts to boot but then locks up while the bios is loading, there is a progress indicator that gets about 3/4 complete then it just sits... if anyone has any ideas what I could try I would appreciate it.  I am just working on this system and was not the one who spilled on it, the EU didnt give me much info. I think they tried and turned it on while it was still wet but I dont know, and I dont know if it was spilled on while it was on or off but after cleaning it all up, now I know that it wont get past the bios.. ask questions and I will do what I can, I have another 6460 that has other problems but I suppose I can try and mix and match parts but both of them seem like the problems they have right now are due to motherboard issues so I dont know if swapping parts would really pay off. any advice will be gladly taken, Thanks!
