The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. IBM laptop 760 no operating system

I have an old IBM thinkpad 760 that a friend gave to me for my kids to use.  I decided when I got it I would wipe out everything on the hard drive, which was running windows 95, re format, and fdisk it and delete old partitions and create an active dos partition.  This laptop came with both an internal floppy as well as an internal cd rom drive, but they cannot run at the same time.  The problem is that when I try to boot from the cdrom it does not even know that the cdrom is there.  I have tried a windows 98 boot diskett , but there is no way to run the cd, even when I get to a dos prompt.  I have exchanged the floppy for the cd drive, but still nothing.  I need to get any os on this laptop so I can use the cd...any suggestions?  I have heared something about copying CAB files over but do not know how.
