The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PPTP Passthrough won't work on X1250e

Asked by cbossert in Watchguard Firewall, Networking Hardware Firewalls

I currently have a VPN server on our internal network that has two nics installed in the server. The first nic is 192.168.100.254 the second nic has an ip address of lets say 67.33.20.1.

Our current firewall is just forwarding PPTP 1723 and GRE to 67.33.20.1 and everything works perfectly. All laptops and external clients use ip 67.33.20.1 in their setup.

We have purchased a x1250e I have installed the latest firmware. I have everything working to my knowledge except for the VPN pass-through. I first started with the 1 to 1 nat and set it like this.

Single IP, interface external, nat base is 67.33.20.1 real base is 192.168.100.254

then I have setup a pptp packet fillter to allow from any to 192.168.100.254.

I have saved this config to the firebox and I get denied.

This is the message I get below.

2007-12-12 13:04:38 Deny 69.134.82.129 67.33.20.1 pptp/tcp 51989 1723 0-External 1-Trusted denied 48 98 (Unhandled External Packet-00)   tcpinfo="offset 7 S 333500259 win 8192"

I also get this and the 192.168.100.250 is another server on the network

2007-12-12 13:05:36 Deny 192.168.100.250 67.33.20.1 netbios-ns/udp 137 137 1-Trusted unknown denied (outgoing route unknown) 90 128 (Unhandled Internal Packet-00)

What am I doing wrong here? Please advise.

Thank you for any help!

Michael.
