The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Remove an annoying popup that McAfee is not able to find

Asked by doug5516 in Anti-Virus, Web Browsers, McAfee Anti-Virus Software

My computer has somehow been infected with some type of the following: adware, spyware, virus, something else.  I am not sure what it is or where it came from.  I have scanned the system with McAfee, but McAfee is not able to find it (keeps telling me my system is clean).

Here is what is happening.  Every 5 minutes or so, I get a popup telling me my system is infected and offering to scan my computer using "Antivirus 2009" or "Antivirus 2008" (it varies from time to time).  At times I can just click no and it goes away.  Other times the popup includes some pseudo-add for pornography, telling me I should scan my system to get rid of any spyware.  This happens whether I have an open IE session or not.  When I have an open IE session, in addition to the above description, my browser loses focus every thirty seconds or so and I have to click back onto the title bar to continue working.

There is also an Icon in the Notification Bar the looks like the Windows Security Shield (red wth an "X" on it).  If I left or right click on this shield it will also bring up the popup ad for the "Antivirus 2009".

Any suggestions on getting rid of this will be greatly appreciated as McAfee is not picking it up.

By the way, I am running Windows XP Professional and IE 7.Start Free Trial
