Hello.
We have several laptop client computers with similar setup, Windows XP Pro / MS Office 2007. Exchange server 2003 in the network. What is common, is that all the laptop users complain about their Outlook performance. But from what I can see, it can be caused by several things. To list up things I have found so far:
* Large mailbox on mailserver and Outlook in cached mode. This is even a bigger problem if the local disk gets fragmented. But new users (with minimal items in Inbox) also complains, so this can not be the only cause.
* Symantec Antivirus 10.1. Each client have this AV software installed. Some times I see these processes consumes a lot of CPU. I have disabled the Startup Scan in Symantec System Center at the server, but still I see cases where "Rtvscan.exe" and "Doscan.exe" runs at startup and causes the computer to be sluggish.
* Indexing: Windows Desktop Search is a fine piece of software, but what if a client is indexing Exchange server contents....? Any recommendations? I have stopped installing this on new computers.
Is the only solution "hard work" on each client to optimize things? What does an experienced expert say?
