Im having problems trying to share some folders between two PCs at home. I have 2 PCs (both running XP Pro) connected via NIC cable to a wireless router (neither have wireless capability). Another connected to the same wireless router, they had never yet been networked. So I did the following:
I gave them both the same Workgroup name and a different Computer Name (Computer1 and Computer2). I restarted both PCs. I then created 3 folders in the Computer1 PC and I went into the Properties and then Share tab for those folders and I checked both the Shared this folder on the network checkbox and the Allow network users to change my files checkbox.
Im not sure whats supposed to happen next. If I were to now go to Computer2 and click My Network Places, then I should be able to see the folders, right? But I dont see them; all I see is an icon that says My Web Sites on MSN.
So while I was inside My Network Places, I then went the extra step of clicking view workgroup computers. I thought maybe that would do it. But what resulted was a wait of about 30 seconds and then I got a pop-up saying that particular workgroup is not accessible and that you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.
From Computer2 I also tried going to Start \ Run to access the folders by typing the format: \\computer name\folder name. But it gave me another pop-up saying that it cannot find it.
Can anyone help me?
