The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ssh tunnel putty to ubuntu server

Asked by jimmy6154 in SSH / Telnet Software, Firefox Web Browser, Ubuntu

Thanks for looking at my question. I'm trying to setup  an ssh tunnel but I keep running into issues that are unknown to me.

So I have a Ubuntu server configured. I can ssh to if from outside my network with no issues. This means I have ssh setup ok and that I have port 22 forwarded to this server.

I've found many write ups on ssh forwarding through putty and it seems rather simple. So for easy testing to see if this was working I went to a friends house next door and I created and saved a profile to my Remote IP over ssh (port 22) in PuTTY.  In the tunnel section I configured the source port as port 8088. I then configured the destination IP as the remote WAN address where my Ubuntu server is located and set that port to 8088. I opned the connection and logged into my server.

Then I configured his Firefox browser proxy settings. I set the HTTP proxy to IP 127.0.0.1 port 8088 and checked the box label "use the proxy server for all protocols"

Also before I forget to mention on my remote router I forwarded all tcp/udp for port 8088 to my ssh server whether I need it or no, not sure.

So when I open up firefox, nothing happens. It just sits there and thinks.  Any help on this would be appreciated.Start Free Trial
