The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problem with SPF record? Emails to Hotmail going missing and SPF tests fail

Asked by alternativeit in List Server Software, Anti-Spam White Lists, Anti-Spam Email Software

Tags: , ,

Hi guys,

Looking to work out what (if anything) is wrong with my SPF setup.

When I send to hotmail addresses - which makes up a large percentage of our audience - the email disappears with no NDR, and never makes it to the users' inbox or even junk mail folder.

When testing here: http://www.openspf.org/Why?show-form=1&identity=info%40petrescue.com.au&ip-address=74.200.211.242&.submit=Submit

I get the response:

An SPF-enabled mail server rejected a message that claimed an envelope sender address of info@petrescue.com.au.

An SPF-enabled mail server received a message from ajax.alternativeit.com (74.200.211.242) that claimed an envelope sender address of info@petrescue.com.au.

The domain petrescue.com.au has authorized ajax.alternativeit.com (74.200.211.242) to send mail on its behalf, so the message should have been accepted.

What should I do?

Wait a while, then try sending the message again. It should go through then.

...

Which doesn't help very much.

I'm sending emails from mailer@petrescue.com.au to a list of around 20,000 email addresses monthly. I recently moved the site to a box on IP 74.200.211.242 - this is the machine sending the emails. As far as I can see, my SPF record (which is: v=spf1 a mx ip4:74.200.211.242 include:iinet.net.au -all) should be OK; I've allowed A records, and even specifically specified the IP of the server that will be doing the sending.

Any suggestions would be very welcome! Got another newsletter to send out tomorrow, and I'd love to get this fixed by then.

Thanks!
