The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can't Open JPG Image on Windows XP - recent occurrence

Asked by Dabowitt in Photos & Graphics Software, Adobe Photoshop, Outlook Groupware Software

Recently got complaint from users in organization using Windows XP that they could not open JPG images sent from our Art department who are using MACS.  Users indicated that this started within the past two weeks.  The only change I know is that the PC's were patched with March Microsoft patches in the past two weeks.

I had art department send me three pictures via Outlook 2003.

1)  Image 1 received from photographer as JPG and was retouched  and resaved as rgb jpeg in Photoshop on the MAC

2)  Image 2 directly from photographer

3)  Internal house image resaved as JPG in PhotoShop in MAC

On my Windows XP workstation as administrator I received in Outlook 2003 and tried to open and got image preview not available on Image 1 and 3.  Image 2 opened fine.

Went to another administrator workstation and all 3 opened fine.

Went to 3 user workstations and image 1 and 3 won't open with same error.

In all non-open cases saved to desktop and tried to open and get same error.

Company OU not applicable since 3 different OU's were in effect here and two of them are administrative OU's without lockdown policies.

My first thought was that issue was with Photoshop for MAC converstion but this was blown out of water when I went to another adminstrator machine with all identical patches and it opened.  Oh - went to third Admin machine and 1 and 3 would not open.

ANY IDEAS!!!!  Any recent within past two months changes to how Microsoft XP, Office 2003 SP3, Outlook etc... handle JPG images.
