The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

This JBoss install on Dedicated (zero support) Windows 2003 Server Can't Reach the Outside World

Asked by dereklords in Jboss Application Server, Network Software Firewalls, IPSec Security Protocol

Tags: , , , , , ,

I have dedicated windows hosting through 1&1.  Three firewall options are provided, an external firewall via the control panel, Windows Firewall, and IPSec.  After installing JBoss 4.2.2.GA without issue I find JBoss is available when called via internal IP on port 8080 as http://127.0.0.1:8080 but no matter what I do with any of these three firewall options I am not able to reach Jboss from the outside world.

I have shut off IPSec and disabled The external firewall and the windows firewall.  That didn't work.  My current favorite choice is to have port 8080 TCP open via the external firewall with IPSec and Windows firewall disabled.  However, it's like port 8080 has been ignored.

I wouldn't be posting this question except the company 1&1 insists they do not block ANY ports AT all Period.  I have to say I'm a little suspicious at this point.

Anyway, my question is there any way to route to an internal IP address such as 10.0.0.10 - 30 or something like that using Routing and Remote Access?  If that is possible please provide some directions how to do this.

Even better, if anyone has succeeded in installing JBoss on a Windows Dedicated Server through 1&1 please advise!

Any suggestions as to an alternative JBoss or Tomcat hosting please advise.

Thanks and kind regards,

Derek Lords
