I setup a 2 node Oracle RAC Cluster using 11G. My 2 nodes are DL360s G4s + 8 GB of memory OS is W2003 64bit. My shared disk is provided by an HP All-in-One Storage Server which has 6 x 250 gb SATA 7.2k drives. My database is only 30 GBs so I don't need much space. My nodes talk to AiO using iSCSI which works ok. My interconnect between my nodes is infiniband at 10GBs. In my initial tests my RAC cluster runs 4 times slower than my production system which is a single DL585 with 16GBs of memory and 4 x 2.4 ghz processors also running on W2003 64bit enterprise. I think my bottle neck is the drives on my storage server. They are 7200 RPM Sata Drives. To address the slow disk situation I was able to add a MegaRaid-4XLP Sata II Raid Controller to my storage server and an external SATA enclosure. I was able to add 2 x Crucial 32GB Solid State Disks in the enclosure and they seem to work alot faster but I am concerned that these are not intended for server use and intended to replace notebook hard drives. I also own a Compaq 5314 dual Fiber Channel JBOD with 8 x 250 GB disks that was from an HP EVA. I don't need that much space but perhaps I can install ExtremeRaid 5000 Fiber Channel Raid Controller in my storage server and use my JBOD as my shared disk. AiO can configure any disk I add to it as a dynamic disk that can be used as an iSCSI server. I am looking for the best solution that will give me optimal speed and scalability using my AiO Storage Server.
Thanks..
