The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Resized Ubuntu partition doesn't recognize new size or freespace.

I recently have been taking steps toward the total UNIXification of my desktop computer. At the moment I'm running an XP/Hardy dual boot setup on a 500GB drive. Initially, Ubuntu sat on a measly 40GB, but as I grew into the OS I found I needed more room. 'Not a problem' I thought as I popped into my Paragon Partition Manager Boot CD v9.0 and resized Windows (sda1 NTFS) down a few hundred gigabytes and dropped the free space onto Hardy (sda2 EXT3). The operation completed successfully, but when I went back into Ubuntu it didn''t recognize this new free space! The partition capacity reads the incorrect size in System Monitor as the old 36.7GB but 'parted' sees the partition correctly. However, in tools like System Monitor and GParted or Parted the partition does read as the correct size, just full to the brim. I had about 4GB free space before the whole ordeal, and that's what I have now. I'm thinking that maybe I should have formatted that chunk of free space before plunking it into the linux partition. Anyways, now all I want to do is recover that massive slab of free space (~160GB) that seems to be part of my linux partition, just not useable. I can provide more information on anything upon request.Start Free Trial
