The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

vista can't see drive after using partition magic!

Asked by davekuhar in Computer Hard Drives, Microsoft Operating Systems, Windows Vista

I have a dell xps 420 with vista. It came with a 320GB.  15GB of it is for recovery partition.  hard driveI made a mistake and I need help fixing it. I wanted to copy my OS onto a WD740 10,000rpm drive. I went to Western Digital and didnt find any software to transfer the OS, so I installed partition magic,  of course vista said that it wasnt compatible but I installed it anyway and I right clicked the icon and went to properties and compatibility tab and set  the compatibility  mode to run under  windows xp. When I opened partition magic the fist thing came up was an message saying that there was something wrong with a sector and asked me if I wanted to fix it, I said no.  partition magic didnt see C drive, so I closed partition magic and reopened it and fixed that bad sector and it still didnt see C drive. I restarted my pc and  I wasnt able to log onto vista. I wasnt able to repair it either. I tried several times. I felt partition magic would work, but nope,, I learned.  So I installed a fresh copy of vista onto my new WD740 10,00rpm drive.
I installed the 320GB drive as a slave it still doesnt see that partition with the OS on it! But it does see the recovery partition!  I need to see that partition so I can get my data off it.  Yea, I know, I blew it, so, now I need your help. If you need more info. Please ask, thanks,
Dave
