The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Repositioning all objects in the workspace
Tags: flash, reposition, objects, all
In Flash, I've found that no matter how meticulously I select every object in the workspace, when I try to move them all, only some of them move.  When I play the timeline, only some of the frames moved while the rest are still positioned where they were.  How do I reposition the entire flash movie if I change the document size?

hello knetyk,

i don't think that i  get ur problem well, but here is some hints:
if u r on a certain frame, that means u can only c on the stage the objects that exist in every layer in this frame only, if u moved the timehead to the right, u may c more new objects as u have inserted new objects in the later frames.

to select the entire stage  when u r on a certain frame or keyframe, press ctrl+A to select all the objects. or simply drag ur mouse to cover all the stage to select every thing.

to be able to just see every thing in a certain period of time (say 12 frames) u can select the onion skin button at the buttom of the timeline pannel then widen the time selection at the top of the pannel.

hope that helps,
kanary.

I select all layers and all frames and attempt to reposition everything.

For instance:  You have any number of objects animating across the stage on any number of separate layers.  The entire animation of all the objects is too far to the right, so you want to bring the entire animation of all objects to the left and then resize the stage.

Doing it one frame at a time seems very counter intuitive let alone counter productive.

i got ur problem now.

ur solution is to convert all ur layers and frames to a movie clip.
here is the steps:

select all the layers keyframes (all ur animations through all layers) then right click and select copy frames.

now select insert from the top file menue -> new symbol -> movie clip

in the movie clip select the first keyframe then right click and select paste frames.
now all ur animations will be pasted in this movie clip.

now go to ur stage, and clear all these animations. then insert the movie clip u have just created from the library.
now position ur movie clip where ever u want.

hope this helps now.
kanary.

It's one way around it, but it treats my original timeline animation as a movie clip (obviously) which means I can't export a sequence of image files from it, which is required to complete the job by my clients requests.  I'm not sure if this was a dumb mistake on the part of Macromedia, but that's an issue I've got going in another question on this site.

I'll go ahead and honor this solution with the points, but if you have a clue about this other problem, I'd appreciate it.  I've scoured the macromedia tech support site to no avail.

hello knetyk,
thx for rewarding the question with the A.

to go over this, i think u should make a new swf file.
and in this file put ur animations and load ur sequence as u wish.

and in the original file, import this swf either in design time or dynamically at run time.

did this help?

kanary.

Hmm, not sure we're connecting here.

I'm not trying to load a sequence, I'm exporting as a sequence, but the stills don't incorporate the embedded movie files within the SWF.  Even if I create a new document, import the SWF and inspect each frame, it drops the movie files that were originally embedded.

Something else I tried:
1 copy all the layers and frames of the particular movie
2 paste them in the main timeline
3 delete all the original layers
4 export the movie
5 reload the original FLA
6 import the movie SWF in a new layer

When you import an SWF, it makes each frame a key frame.  That means, now I'd have to manually reposition each and every keyframe to match where the object (the head) is supposed to be, then delete the original layers that the new SWF import is covering.  That's alot of work for something that shouldn't be so hard to deal with.

I think I may be able to help here.

What you need to do is to click on "Edit Multiple Frames" button. It's an icon with two small square overlapping close to the status bar that shows the current frame info.

Let me know if this answers your question.
